Success in Basildon
We are delighted to have helped our client, Winston Group, secure planning consent for 23 new homes at the former Belvedere site in Basildon, Essex.
The Belvedere was a former leisure and entertainment venue which closed in 2013, with the vacant site subsequently suffering from fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour. However, due to being classified as previously developed land within the Green Belt, there were significant planning challenges around redeveloping the site.
Led by our Director, Tom Martin, the Quatro team organised a programme of public consultation including a leaflet survey of residents, meetings with local councillors and a Public Exhibition at the site. We also monitored the wider political landscape in Basildon following the Council changing control from Conservative to Labour, before reverting back to Conservative.
In the run-up to the decision committee, we engaged with the ward councillors to understand their position and highlight the benefits of the application. Ultimately, both ward councillors, as well as a local resident, spoke in support of the application at the decision committee and the application approved 5 – 0.
