NEW PLANS SUBMITTED FOR WHITELEY VILLAGE

NEW PLANS SUBMITTED FOR WHITELEY VILLAGE

The Whiteley Co-Ownership has submitted its development proposals for the Whiteley Village Shopping Centre to Winchester City Council.

The application to remodel Whiteley Village includes a range of new shops, cafés and restaurants, between 75 and 80 new homes, a new ‘Community Hub’, new library, a new hotel and local offices.

The ‘Community Hub’ will include a new Winchester City Council ‘one-stop shop’ where residents can get information about local services, together with meeting rooms for Whiteley Parish Council and local community groups and a police office.

The submission follows public exhibitions in March and December last year, at which many residents welcomed the opportunity to give their views on the initial proposals and looked forward to a range of new local shops, cafés and restaurants as the Village remodelling progresses. In particular, many residents welcomed the plans to introduce new shops that would serve local residents so that they could buy everyday items without having to drive elsewhere.

Andrew Rollings, Retail Director at Whiteley Village, said:

“The response to our public exhibitions last year demonstrated a great deal of support for the remodelling of Whiteley Village so that it becomes much more of a local ‘High Street’ for local residents. Whiteley Village is on the way up and the submission of plans for new retail units, cafés and restaurants, new homes, a hotel and the ‘Community Hub’ brings this a step closer.”
