Battersea Power Station
“We are very grateful for the work that you and your colleagues have put into the project, in particular running the very successful public exhibition.” --Jeremy Castle, Planning Director – Treasury Holdings UK
Battersea Power Station is one of the UK’s most iconic buildings and one of London’s prime development sites, dormant for quarter of a century - dogged by numerous failed proposals to regenerate the site.
Quatro was appointed by Treasury Holdings UK in March 2008, to run an extensive public consultation campaign over the summer on the new masterplan for the site.
The masterplan for the redevelopment of the 38 acre site aims to create the world’s first zero carbon mixed-use development providing nearly 8 million ft2 of development, a new tube station, an eco-dome and a 1,000 ft chimney. More information can be found at battersea-powerstation.com.
Over 15,000 people participated in a highly successful first phase of consultation during June, July and as a reflection on the success of the exhibition extended openings every Saturday during August.
REMARKABLE OUTCOMES:
- More than one in three visitors filled out a questionnaire
- 66% of support the proposed masterplan
- 70% saying the design quality was good or very good
- During July and August the website had over 1.5 million hits and 18,000 unique visitors
- Over 10,000 downloaded exhibition boards
There was solid support for the plans to extend the Northern Line to a new station at Battersea together with an encouraging level of support that the proposals offer an exciting and groundbreaking way to tackle climate change and regenerate the site.
During July, nine workshops were held on four topics: transport, masterplan, sustainability and history to which 57 individuals attended to gain deeper understanding of and to input into the evolving masterplan.
Quatro delivered a high standard and volume of material for the exhibition working with a graphic design agency, client and project team consisting of approximately 10 companies. The following were delivered within an 8 week period:
- 30 exhibition panels - comprehensive copywriting for controversial and highly scientific issues, sourcing and liaison of images, managing designers and coordinating comments and input from professional team.
- Project website www.battersea-powerstation.com

Statistical monitoring provided in order to maintain a high profile site and to develop as necessary. - Project newsletter - copywriting, sourcing and liaison of images, managing designers and coordinating comments and input from professional team, as well as managing the distribution process.
