Les Trois Rois, Basel

Les Trois Rois in Basel is one of Europe’s oldest hotels – the epitome of opulence and luxury beside the River Rhine. Basel is well known as a major industrial centre for the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, so this ‘grande dame’ of luxury hotels doesn’t have a problem filling its rooms during the working week. However the city’s attractions as a short break destination are less known, and our brief was to address this.

Over an eighteen-month period, we organised group or individual press trips to Basel for approximately 20 journalists, focused on Basel’s cultural and artistic calendar including major art exhibitions and quirky local events such as the Christmas market, resulting in high quality coverage. Another key achievement was the negotiation of a package with Tate Online, for members wishing to visit a major Van Gogh retrospective in 2009, which had an excellent uptake.
