Our Brief:

Quatro recently organised a public consultation programme on behalf of Crosby Lend Lease on its regeneration proposals for further phases of the development of Potato Wharf, Castlefield, Manchester, as part of Crosby Lend Lease's commitment to work openly with the local community.

Activity:

The Public Consultation Programme has involved an extensive range of events and means through which local residents and businesses could make their views known;

  • An initial two-day public exhibition was held at the Museum of Science and Industry on 3rd and 4th October 2007. Over 1,650 letters were sent to households and business surrounding the site setting out the proposals and inviting them to the public exhibition. All visitors were encouraged to fill in a feedback response form at the exhibition or return it to a FREEPOST address.
  • A second two-day public exhibition was held at the Museum of Science and Industry on 16th and 17th November 2007. Over 1,650 letters were again sent to households and business surrounding the site setting out the proposals and inviting them to the public exhibition. All visitors were once again encouraged to fill in a feedback response form at the exhibition or return it by FREEPOST. In order to encourage attendance at the second Public Exhibition a quarter page advertisement was placed in the Manchester Evening News on Tuesday 13th November. In addition, copies of the advertisement were printed and distributed by hand to local businesses and public buildings in the city centre.
  • A four-page Newsletter was also posted to 1,650 households and business premises in the area with details of the proposals and the Public Exhibition, together with a Freepost Comments Card.
  • Finally, two stakeholder workshops were arranged for local businesses and local residents at the Museum of Science and Industry on 20th and 21st November, from 6.30-8.30pm.

Outcome:

A planning application is scheduled for January 2008 and Quatro's Statement of Community Consultation will form part of the planning application documentation.
