PLANNING SUCCESS FOR THE BELL, TICEHURST

Glasses were raised to the future of The Bell public house in Ticehurst, East Sussex, last week, as plans for its redevelopment were approved by Rother Council Planning Committee.

The £2m redevelopment proposal for the pub include a new fine food restaurant and stylish 11-bedroom hotel. An extension to the grade-II listed building will expand the bar and restaurant area and create additional guest rooms, with further accommodation to be provided in guest lodges within the pub grounds.

Planning consent follows overwhelming public support shown at the Open Days held earlier this year, at which over 400 local people viewed the proposals.

Joint-owner and future landlord, Gary Skipsey, said:

“Winning planning permission for The Bell is certainly something to drink to. It'll be a while before we can actually start work, but we hope that Ticehurst will have its pub back by the end of 2010."
